West Gate Tunnel Project

Client: Transurban & Victorian Infrastructure Delivery Authority
Project Value: $10.2 billion

The West Gate Tunnel is one of Victoria's largest road infrastructure projects, once complete it will provide an alternative route to the West Gate Bridge.

Key role & deliverables:

 

  • Safely maintained and minimised the disruption to the movement of over 450,000 vehicles per day across 60km of major urban freeway, arterial and local road networks

  • Working collaboratively with key stakeholders (incl. Department of Transport and Planning, 5 local councils, the Port of Melbourne Corporation and Marvel Stadium)

  • Facilitated safe access to the road network for delivery by planning, designing, implementing and maintaining thousands of long and short-term traffic management events over the 7-year project duration, including a 5-day full closure of the West Gate Freeway

  • Developed clear and concise presentations for the client, to assist with broader Executive and Ministerial briefings on major project delivery construction and traffic management requirements.

Melbourne Metro Tunnel Early Works (MMTEW)

Project Value: $330 million (Total project: $10.2 billion)

The Metro Tunnel creates a new end-to-end rail line connecting Sunbury and Cranbourne/Packenham lines with bigger trains to significantly improve the capacity of Melbourne’s rail network (scheduled for 2025 opening).

Key role & deliverables:

 

  • Developed the traffic management processes and systems to ensure that the Project Scope Requirements (PSR) and Environmental Performance Requirements (EPR) for the Early works were achieved

  • Managed the detailed planning, design and implementation of traffic management to facilitate the construction of major access shafts in the centre of the CBD adjacent to Swanston St (the world’s busiest tram route)

  • Led complex negotiations with third party building sites, Yarra Trams, Melbourne City Council, RMIT and other key stakeholders to develop solutions that considered the requirements of all transport users.

Airport Drive Extension Project

Extending Airport Drive from Sharps Road to the intersection of Melrose Drive and Mercer Drive at Melbourne Airport. The 3.75 km extension included a 4 lane divided road, realignment of Link Road and the design and construction of adjacent roads.

Key role & deliverables:

 

  • Led the planning, design and implementation and maintenance of all traffic management for the road network, coordination of construction disciplines to minimise traffic impacts as a result of project works

  • Development of traffic staging plans to accommodate complex construction activities at public road interfaces

  • Managed the construction of all road works at the existing road tie-in points

  • Liaising with key Melbourne Airport stakeholders, road authorities and public transport authorities.

Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) - Package 1

Project Value: $524 million

Package 1 (Burke, North, McKinnon, Centre Roads) involved lowering the rail lines in 4 highly built up urban areas whilst maintaining transport, business and community access during construction.

Key role & deliverables:

 

  • Implemented the largest road closure at the time in the LXRP program by diverting over 50,000 vehicles per day for 9 days during major bridge construction with minimal impact to the surrounding road network

  • Actively managed the wider area road network during a 37 day rail shutdown to enable the railway to be lowered below the road at 3 level crossings simultaneously

  • Enabled the bulk haulage movement of over 150 truck and trailers at a rate of 1 every 30 seconds for 4 continuous days (24/7) to remove 500,000 tonnes of material without incident or congestion.

Regional Rail Link - Footscray to Deer Park

West Footscray Station - Regional Rail Link
Client: Regional Rail Link Authority
Project Value: $835 million

RRL Package C involved early works design for the Albion Junction alterations, major upgrades to stations and construction of new rail tracks and 2 grade separations.

Key role & deliverables:

 

  • Managed the interface between the public, road network and construction activities from Footscray to Deer Park

  • Established and led the traffic team to ensure traffic management planning, design and implementation was safe, practical, within budget and minimised delays while ensuring construction could be undertaken

  • Developed and maintained strong positive stakeholder relationships to achieve timely approvals to ensure delivery program milestones were met.
